(written to her son Stephen and daughter-in-law Joanna for their wedding)

 The secret to having a wonderful marriage lies in honouring, loving and respecting each other.  Such a marriage will not only bring joy to the family, but will also cause a deeper relationship with God for both individuals.  Marriage is not merely about seeking happiness, but more importantly is about becoming more Godly.  All the days of marriage allows us to learn about and practice submission, humbleness, meekness, gentleness, kindness, patience, forgiveness and acceptance—becoming more like Jesus every day.  

 “Jesus is the head of your household” should not just be hung over the fireplace as a form of decoration, but should be lived out by following in His teachings and principles and allowing Him to truly be the master, saying along with Joshua “as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” When a married couple is in mutual submission to each other under God, and living by the Word of God, the result will be personal growth, a marriage that grows in intimacy and strength, and beautiful service to God performed together, both inside and outside the home.
